Cygnites - Educating the underprivileged

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela

Recently our school collaborated with one of the renowned NGOs of Vadodara city  called "The Baroda Citizens Council". Out of many activities which this NGO conducts, students of our school volunteered to participate in the educational activity of this NGO.

8 students of Grade 11, as a part of the internship programme, taught  children of the underprivileged section of the society. They conducted various activities related to math, soft skills, good touch - bad touch, communication skills etc for about 4 weeks with these children. These sessions were conducted in the evening to provide extra support, guidance and help to the children whose parents are labourers, construction workers etc. This experience gave our students a wonderful opportunity to not only teach but do their bit for the society as responsible citizens of the nation.

Painting walls of a Street School

“Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.” – Helen Dyer

Small acts, multiplied by a group of participants, can transform the world. Community service is an effort to help people and make the world a better place to live in.

Cygnus World School is happy to share that our students worked with “Happy Faces” to design and paint walls at “Street School”, Sayajigunj, Vadodara, to create a sense of belonging within the community and to express their gratitude. Students’ enthusiastic participation and their willingness to develop a special bond with the Street School were incredible. Divided into different groups, they all took one week to complete this work and remained dedicated, involved and committed throughout.

The platform, bestowed upon students, was a wonderful opportunity to engage them in community service, boost their self-esteem, express their gratitude and help them reach new levels of skills. We achieved the most desirable outcome – continuous progress led by kindness and virtue

The Children were given certificates of participation to recognize their efforts in the community service. The development of individuality and the participation of the individual in community service initiatives are two necessary aspects.

The students discussed the matter and planned a drive to donate sanitary napkins. On the 25th, a group of students visited GIDC Makarpura and interacted with different groups of women there. They were able to discuss the topic openly and change their perspective.

D.N.A. - Definitions Not Applicable: One Step Closer to LGBTQ+

Homosexuality and queer identities are gaining acceptance among the Indian youth in the present times. It still remains a constant struggle for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) individuals to openly express their gender choices within the boundaries of society and gain acceptance. It is still important to sensitize society to overcome age-old beliefs and accept the realities of gender.

Cygnus World School in collaboration with Lakshya Trust as well as with several dedicated students, have come up with a project D.N.A. i.e Definitions Not Applicable. It aimed to create awareness regarding the LGBTQ+ community. Under the project, the school organized an Orientation Program and a 3-day workshop at Lakshya Trust where the students taught them skills to de-stress including visual arts, dance and Zumba. The students interacted with them without any prejudices or notions, understood the struggles they faced and shared significant joyous moments with them.
