"If we separate learning from living, then neither are we learning, nor are we living."
Mrs. Bhavani Raghuraman, one of the most respected names in the field of academia, has always been a passionate educationist and facilitator. Her long held faith in education's ability to amplify both individual and societal intellect and hence drive world progress, has led her on her journey of 34 years in education, out of which 21 have seen her as the principal of various reputed institutes.
She began her career in the July of 1968 with St. Thomas High School, Pune where she taught multiple subjects to high school students for four years. After a brief hiatus, she resumed work in 1975 and this time, served in the administrative division, until 1979, at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune (an autonomous research Institute under the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation).
She realized that to bring about positive, continuous growth and to truly make a difference, it was vital to start at the grass root level and work on channelizing the potential of children. In 1990, Mrs. Raghuraman crossed the first major milestone of her career when she helped set up Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sulochana Natu Vidya Mandir, Pune (an international educational institution with 84 Schools in India and abroad). As the founding principal, she saw the school grow from 53 students in grade 1 to a school of repute with 30 divisions and 1600 students. Under her 15 years of competent tutelage, the school has had a100 % result every year with 2 to 3 students consistently figuring in the Board's merit list.
In 2006, Mrs. Raghuraman joined a reputed School in Gujarat (affiliated to the CBSE Board) as the school's principal. A fierce advocate for project-based learning, she was responsible for the design & implementation of the school's academic curriculum & planner for Grade I to XI and for designing a project-based Pre-school Curriculum along with Subject Learning Centers. Being a strong proponent of constructive academic evaluation, she designed & successfully implemented CCE (Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation) in the school's assessment culture. Moreover, she also spearheaded the initiative to get the school ISO-9001 certified in November 2009.
An excellent student herself and a consistent top scorer, Mrs. Raghuraman pursued B.A (Hons.) in Economics and followed it up with an M.A (Research) in Educational Communication. Her passion for spreading education saw her add multiple degrees to her list of credentials - these include a D.Ed (Diploma) in Education, DECE (Diploma) in Early Childhood & Education and CIG in Guidance and Counseling. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pune and a Post Graduate Diploma in School Leadership & Management (PGDSLM) from Ahmedabad Management Association.
